  1. Traditionally the horseshoe is regarded as bringing good luck and placed with the two ends facing upwards - to keep the luck intact.
    Every horsehoe that I have seen in cemeteries have been placed like the one above. So I suppose that being dead means that your luck has run out - a befitting symbol for those who loved horses.
