The sundial symbolises mortality and the passage of time.  But seems to me it's rather a sad reminder that the sundial will continue to mark the passage of time when the person that rests beneath it no longer will.

Pillows

These two markers were just a few like it in a family plot.  I photographed several of them and I also photographed the big family name marker but it did not turn out.  For some reason it came out really blurry. But I still wanted to share these even thou I am unable to provide a last name.

Hayseed And Conk Shells

The sculpture is made of conk shells set in concrete. You can see the foot marker laying next to it but it had no initials on it. I am not sure if  it belong with Hayseed but his marker was the closest to it.

This marker was found close to the base of this interesting conk shell sculpture.
Both were located at Park Cemetery in Carthage, MO.

Interesting Mausoleum For The James Family

I spotted this mausoleum from across the cemetery. At first I was thinking they had went all out and built a bathroom.  As I got closer I realize it was a mausoleum.

Egyptian Influences

The Egyptians influenced monuments can be found in almost every cemetery that was founded from the 1840s and 50s on to present day.  Napoleon's 1798-99 Egyptian campaigns and the discoveries at the tombs of the Pharaohs led to a resurgence of interest in the ancient Egyptian culture. And it can be seen in our cemeteries and many other places.

(Located at Webb City Cemetery in Webb City, MO)

Obelisks are one of the most popular types of Egyptian influenced markers. You can see them in just about any cemetery. They were considered tasteful with their pure uplifting lines and associated with ancient greatness. They were also able to be used in relatively small spaces and  less costly than the larger and more elaborately sculpted monuments.

Here are a few of the larger Egyptian influences mausoleums I have found.

Sunday Styles: Eclectic monument

Eclectic markers  - they tends to be large and incorporate two or three styles in one structure. This type of marker commonly has a flat screen (for inscriptions). These monuments are generally massive and made of granite but not alway.

Haunted Stone?

I photographed this stone at Fairview Cemetery located in Joplin, MO.  While posting it on Find A Grave there was a story about it being haunted. The poster said "The reports say that cameras jam up and cars stop running and will not start again, and that you feel an errie presances around this stone".  Even though I did not experience any of the things that are said to happen. I do find the stone very beautiful.
