Famous: Chief John Ross

Located at Ross Cemetery in Park Hill, OK.

John Ross died in Washington, D.C. in 1866 and was buried next to his wife in Delaware. In 1867 the Cherokee National Council had his body moved to Ross Cemetery.  Where this monument was erected in his honor.

Styles: Bale Tomb/Barrel Tomb

This is a wonderful bale/barrel tomb located at Oaklawn Cemetery in Tulsa, OK.  Sadly there is no names or dates anywhere to be found. There is a lot tag which is visible in the photo that reads 251.  If you are familiar with this grave I would love to know who is buried here.

I like this picture because you can see the tall buildings in the back ground showing how much Tulsa has grown since A.D. Orcutt settled this area.

Update: Annie Apple Van Marm

I recently got to exchange a few emails with a friend of Annie Apple Van Marm's and she was kind enough to send me a few photos of her.  She also told me that Annie made all the Tye-Dyed items in the photos. Thank you so much for sending me the photos.  It is such a wonderful thing to put a beautiful face with such a unique memorial.

I think I may have found her! I spent hours on http://www.ancestry.com/ looking through Loftin records and now I think I have a name for her, MARY A. E. LOFTIN, Dau of Jesse and Nancy McBroom and wife of Eschew (Askew) Loftin.

I started out with this Census record from 1900.

So I started backtracking from there. And I found a 1860 Census that listed Thadues's parents as Eschew (Aschew) Loftin and Mary A E Loftin.

If you look at http://history-sites.com/~kjones/48hmstr.html you will notice Askew went to battle with a few of Mary's brothers.

I recently recieved an email from a family member of Askew's who has been working on their family tree who confirmed that this is Mary A. E. McBroom Loftin's grave.  She also informed me that "Askew died 11 Sept 1862 in Richmond, VA after the Battle of Manassas.  It is believed that he died of disease in the hospital, rather than from a battle wound.  I have been in contact with the national cemeteries in the area and none have a record of his grave.  They feel that he may have been buried in a mass grave, which was not uncommon during the war."
By 1870 she was widowed.
