Sunday Styles: Box tombs

Box tomb -- A structure resembling a rectangular box, with a flat top designed to hold a ledger stone and placed over an in-ground burial. Box tombs were usually built of brick or the local stone, although some were
constructed of marble. Occasionally, a box tomb can be found in the shape of a coffin.  Another term occasionally used for this structure is chest tomb.

  1. You see a lot of these in the south. In my hometown of Columbus, GA is the Historic Linwood Cemetery. You would fall in love with it. Keep up the great work on your blog. I enjoy reading your posts.
